L.A. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week to Focus on “Green” Designers

The Daily News reports that Los Angeles’ Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios is going green this year. Last week it was announced that the upcoming Spring 08 shows in October will focus on promoting eco-friendly designers and sustainable fashions. The shows, themselves, will also be produced with conservation in mind.

Let’s hope that this move toward environmental consciousness isn’t a passing fad for the fashion industry, which has recently seen how lucrative an earth friendly stance can be. Case in point: Anya Hindmarch’s “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” tote and the frenzy it’s been causing internationally this summer. Hopefully, designers and fashion fiends alike are genuinely interested in leaving a lighter environmental footprint.

Further details for a greener fashion week will be announced in September, and Fashion Week sponsor Mercedes-Benz will use the shows as a platform to showcase their new clean diesel technology called Bluetec.
