Celebrities are Bringing the Thick Eyebrows Back, Thank God

Unlike the high fashion runway models, I’ve been noticing that more and more celebrities are not afraid to let people know that they have eyebrows. I mean, really, why should they? Full eyebrows that are groomed and shaped make your face look more naturally radiant.

I think skinny eyebrows first came into style when Brooke Shields threw
away her tweezers in the 80’s. A lot of people were scared by this look–but come on, her eyebrows are a little wild to say the least. You really can’t help but notice that Brooke’s face would be even more gorgeous if she’d trim her brows. As a result, this fear of the eyebrows as inhibitors of our optimum beauty took control and so began the relentless plucking obsession.

I think Tyra Banks is the prime example of the classic omg-what-did-I-do-to-my-eyebrows moment. In her picture on the left, you can barely tell that she has any hair follicles at all above her eyebrows–giving an alien-like illusion to her face. This is a definite DON’T! Natural beauty is the last thing that this look produces.

If that didn’t scare you, check out Pamela Anderson’s awkward face. Let this be a lesson to all of you. Drawing in your eyebrows does not fool anybody.

Finally we’ve reached a decade in which more celebrities are discovering the obvious in-between. Something not as manly as Brooke’s brow nor as freaky as Tyra’s or Pamela’s eyebrows.

Hayden Panettiere from Heros has eyebrows
that look groomed, yet naturally stunning.

Anne Hathaway’s dark, full eyebrows seem to compliment her face very well and she’s definitely got that natural beauty.

    Raising Brows: Curiosity About Tweezers

I haven’t gone to get an eyebrow wax in months.  Maybe even a year.  Although the shock of hot wax on your skin combined with the pulling of a cloth strip is undeniably unforgettable, I really can’t remember the last time I subjected myself to this.  It’s not that I mind getting eyebrow waxes, as a matter of fact, I used to get them regularly.  But my eyebrows kept getting thinner and thinner with each visit and the next thing I knew, I was having to lightly pencil them in for a regular looking face.  I also consider them a little luxury that hasn’t been necessary in these trying times.  So, I leave them alone and tweeze them every couple of weeks to clean them up a bit.  The natural shape and arch has restored itself and I even get compliments on them sometimes.  No more pencils, no more waxing.  Some of you out there will of course disagree with this and get eyebrow waxes for the rest of your life, and actually some eyebrows need them regularly.  But if you are looking to cutback on the splurge and DIY at home, you want to make sure to pick up a decent pair of tweezers.

In all honesty, mine are very old and I do need to replace them soon, sparking my curiosity about different brands.  Of course there are the well-known Tweezerman tweezers that every beauty magazine swears are the best.  I’ve used Tweezerman and they are great.  Very sharp at the pointy ends so you must be careful or you will draw blood and create an unsightly little red bump and possibly ingrown eyebrow hair

These Tweezerman Slant Tweezers ($20), seen here in their signature red, come in an array of fun animal prints and colors including my favorite shade of olive green.  These have won all sorts of accolades for being the best and apparently, were used to pluck Michelle Obama’s famously arched brows on Inauguration Day.

    Tweezerman

Sephora offers a line of products by Anastasia Beverly Hills who makes a similar style of slant tweezers, these cost a little more than the Tweezerman’s…maybe its the “Beverly Hills” add on at the end. $28, sephora.com

If your not into these prices for little pieces of metal with sharp edges, these Revlon Expert Tweezers for $6.49 will probably do the trick as well.

    Happy Tweezing!

Tweezerman - Slant Tweezers - Assorted Colors

The longest lasting beauty tool youʼll ever own is a tweezer, and a Tweezerman Slant is guaranteed to last a lifetime. A staple for every professional brow maven, a Tweezerman is perfectly aligned, guaranteed to grab even the hardest to pluck hair every time.

It is no easy task to find Tweezerman on sale or discounted, but itʼs a bargain in the long run when you consider how many times you’ve attempted to pluck a stray with your basic tweezers and the tips no longer meet (especially if youʼve accidentally dropped them on the floor). Tweezerman implements are guaranteed; the company will sharpen any of their tools that get dull through normal use for free, they replace damaged/dropped tools for half the purchase price and they repair bent tips for $5.00 per tool.

    Lowest Price: $16.99
