Perfume Wars: P. Diddy Wants a Smell Off

So first it was Kanye West and 50 Cent with their much publicized album selling competition, and now, in more publicity stunt news, P.Diddy is challenging Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwen Stefani to a fragrance face off, or a “smell off” as he calls it. Oh goodness. It seems that the Diddy was inspired to challenge his celebrity perfumer contemporaries because as he says, “I am a man, and I know how a woman should smell.”  I don’t know how much confidence I have in this claim though, considering the tone of the ad for his new perfume, Unforgivable Woman. Isn’t it kind of strange? If you ask me, it looks like he’s giving that woman a little unwanted attention. Now that’s unforgivable.

The only one who’s answered Diddy’s battle call so far is Mariah Carey, who replied with this pithy retort:

“I heard about this competition, and I wish Puff all the best with his new fragrance, but I think we’re actually appealing to different types of women. M by Mariah Carey is about being unforgettable, not unforgivable. It’s not about a ménage à trois or a one night stand, it’s for the woman who wants the man to fall in love with her immediately, stay in love, and treat her like royalty.

Haha! Good one, Mariah.  Get a new ad, P. Diddy.

The Real M by Mariah Carey Ads

Remember a couple of weeks ago when those fake M by Mariah Carey ads were making the rounds?  Well, the real one is here and it’s pretty, but that’s all I can say about it.  It has a Calvin Klein Obsession feel to it, but it’s in color. At first I thought this might be a fake, too, because of the tagline:“An ethereal presence captivating like a song.”  That’s a little much, isn’t it?

But I digress.  Here’s the ad:
