Beauty Fix Tip - How to get rid of static cling in your hair and clothes!

Beauty Tips - How to Get Rid of Static Cling

When I was a kid my older brother and I use to have “STATIC ELECTRICITY” fights! Obviously it was the 80’s and both parents were working so we had a ton of time on our hands. The premise was to put on two pairs of our soccer socks and begin rubbing our feet against the orange shag carpeting furiously until we built up enough static electricity to shock each other. He always won! To this day I always get a little nervous when people touch me, I guess subliminally I imagine getting shocked.

Well the other night I was at dinner and I noticed my date’s hair was standing up a little and when I touched his arm I got a little shock! It was sort of funny and sweet. Made me think of my brother and our childhood shenanigans. :)

It also inspired this post because I just wanted to let all you ladies and gentlemen know how to get rid of static electricity.

    1. Rub a dryer sheet against your clothes and head. This works, I do it all the time. Takes literally seconds plus you end up smelling dryer fresh.

    2. Lotion - Apparently staying moisturized helps you from getting shocked or building up static electricity. Applying lotion after a shower especially during the winter seasons helps you from picking up shocks.

    3. Apply metal to metal - If you are tired of getting shocked by your doorknob or kitchen towel rack etc. Touch the surface first with your metal keyes or a spoon etc. The other metal will absorb the built up electricity.

    4.  Fake Fibers - apparently synthetic fibers build up more static electricity than natural ones.. so if you are a frequent fan of the spandex you are in for some shocks! Ha!

I hope this helps all of you, with these nuggets of knowledge in your arsenal maybe you will be victorious in your own “Static Electricity Wars”!!

Beauty Fix - Beat Dry Skin to the Punch - Low Priced Lotions

Ok,Winter sneaks up on me every year and I can never prepare properly for “dry skin season” and therefore end up with skin like the crypt keeper. Not this winter! Luckily after years of thinking there’s nothing I can do about it, I did something about it. I did a little digging and a little testing and found the cure! Dry skin chaps and itches like the dickens but when pre-treated with a healthy moisturizing regime, it’s toast. The best way to combat old man winter is to prep your skin now, while fall is still upon us. Your skin has to get acclimated to a steady regimen of light moisturizing, notice I said “light” anything too heavy or greasy will just break you out. The key is to find a light moisturizer can improve the elasticity of your skin. My pick?

    Neutrogena Illuminating Whip SPF 20

For those of you who get really bad wind burn, or are prone to frost bite, be sure and stock up early on Neutrogena Skin Aid. This product works wonders to heal already cracked, chapped, sunburned or windburned skin. This is what I call a wonder product! It’s multi-purpose and even if you don’t have overly chapped skin, it’s a great moisturizer.

Aside from proper moisturizing be sure to (don’t hate me!) take showers less frequently. I know we can’t help it, but too much soaping up in the winter can only make skin more prone to drying out. If you can’t stay away from the shower try this trick, wash you armpit and nether regions only and apply a moisturizer prior to showering to help retain moisture. With these tips you’ll be the silkiest woman around wandering amongst a sea of chapped ladies. So say it with me gals “I will moisturize” It’s the best way to get your skin prepared for the harsh drying winter that’s sure to come your way. The best offense is a good defense, and this winter you’ll be armed and ready!!

Silence of the Lambs - Smarter Beauty

Hahahahaha! I am sick I know, but that scene cracks me up! :)

Well is it just me or is my skin dry? I think that now that it’s warming up I need to get back to applying lotion regularly. I tend to stop well shaving and putting lotion on in the winter. Ha! I know I am gross but it gets cold, it’s my theory that fewer people see my ashy legs in the winter.

So I have been thinking of trying out those “firming” lotions, nothing to fancy or pricey.
Firming Body Lotions - Jergens Natural Glow Lotion I have been eyeing the ads for Jergens Natural Glow Firming Lotion for awhile, I like their regular lotion so I think I will give this stuff a shot. Has anyone tried it?

My sister swears by GLOW by Jennifer Lopez firming body cream. I was extremely skeptical at the mention of Ms. Jenny from the Block but she says it keeps her skin moisturized, smells good and leaves a light sheen that makes her feel sexy. Go figure? Was: $35.00 Now: $22.49 (click on the image to shop)

GLOW Firming Body Cream by Jennifer LopezAnother product I have heard good reviews on in the arena of firming is the Shiseido Body Creator Aromatic Firming Cream. This silky cream glides on effortlessly and provides intense firming and moisturizing benefits for a toned, youthful look. Formulated with advanced SLM fragrance technology for an invigorating sensory experience of grapefruit oil and spices. Leaves a refreshingly cool sensation upon application. Retextures skin by imparting dramatic firmness and hydration. Price $55.00 at Nordstroms.
