Emmy Trend Alert: Messy, Messy & Promy, Promy
Is there no pleasing me? Not when it comes to this year’s Emmy hair. My goodness, there sure was some messy hair making the rounds at the Emmys on Sunday. Maybe Hollywood was making a statement about the environment, and thus refused to use ozone-depleting hair products. That’s the only thing I can think of to explain all the flyaways, limp locks and nonchalant ‘dos, which were more successful on some (Heidi Klum) than others (everyone else, although Kate Walsh is borderline for me). And I say this as a lover of messy hair…although, admittedly, my love for conditioner is even stronger.
Bring on the messy tresses:

On second thought, Evette, who sometimes makes guest appearances on this blog, mentioned something that got me thinking. She noticed an overall natural-leaning trend at the Emmys, citing the relaxed cleavage among the starlets. It’s true! There were very few impossibly pushed up dynamos this year–everyone was hanging loose and looking more comfortable than usual (minus Christina Aguilera, but she’s pregnant and she rarely goes with the flow). So, maybe Hollywood took it down a notch in pursuit of natural beauty. I think I’m for that.
On the flipside, the overdone prom hair also reared its ugly head, and as usual a handful of actresses fell victim to it’s uptight allure. Promy hair is way worse than messy hair any day of the week. The #1 offender was Ellen “what was she thinking?” Pompeo, who’s going to have to do some serious carbon exchanging to counteract all that hairspray.
Prom in September:

The best Emmy hair was somewhere in the middle of messy and promy–totally natural and hot. As usual, Ali Larter and Helen Mirren stole the sexy show, while Kristen Bell and Hayden Panetierre get props for looking polished while avoiding the winter formal hair trap that has snagged many of their contemporaries. Honorable mention goes to Becki Newton.
