Big Hair Accessories Can Make or Break Your Look

Wearing big hair accessories is a big risk to take. If you choose one that’s slightly too big, you might end up looking like a circus act. But, I’ve definitely seen some girls pulling off the over-sized flowers and headbands flawlessly. It all depends on the size of your head. If you know you have a relatively small face, you can still wear big accessories, but you should go for a skinny headband. A fat headband and a HUGE flower is going to make your head seem awkwardly small. On the other hand, if you know your head is normal or a little bigger, you can probably pull off most large hair accessories with little worry.

Here’s Taylor Swift and her thin headband, but large flower. If you’re wearing this out to a party or casual get together, the flower could stand to be a little smaller. Taylor’s on a photo shoot in this picture, where the rules applied are a little different, but the overall idea is the same because she’s got a petite frame and the thin strap makes the flower work.

Here’s a DON’T: When we’re talking about big hair bands and accessories, how can anyone forget Whitney’s giant, thermal off white headband that she wore in an episode of the Hills earlier this year. This was not flattering at all and the entire scene that she wore it, I couldn’t not stare at the giant-ness of her flower. The flower itself is not cute and the material and color combination made it look kind of dirty. This is a perfect example a big hair accessory that does not fit the frame of her face. I understand that the headband is probably Whitney’s attempt at staying warm yet fashionable–but it kind of looks like an in-between of a beanie and a headband and that’s just weird.

I couldn’t really find any celebrities that are able to pull off wearing a flower in their hair but here’s an image of a style I stumbled upon that looks elegant and beautiful.  You can’t go wrong with curls and a flower.

Finally, here’s Sarah Jessica Parker walking in at the premiere of Sex and the City the movie. No words are necessary.

Spring Hair Styles - Quick Tips for Spring Hair

Spring outfits call for Spring hairstyles, but that doesn’t mean you have to chop all your hair off. Sure as the weather warms up long hair tends to become a nuisance, but love and care was used to grow your locks, don’t just chop them off because the weather is warming.

In Spring & Summer I find the best hairstyles tend to be the ones that get your hair off your neck and face. Low fuss, no muss trends are my favorite.

Here are my top picks for quick and fashionable fixes this Spring 2008:

    1. HEADBANDS

    Spring Hair Styles - Headbands

Headbands are back in a BIG way. Things to keep in mind, the smaller your head and features are the bigger and bolder you can go with styles, width and color of headband. If you have a big dome and big face, best to keep the headband smaller and solid tones. This will help keep your features in appropriate proportion.

    2. PONYTAILS (Low & Half Pony ONLY)

Spring Hair Styles - Half Pony

Half Pony - The style seems to be teased and sort of pompadoured in the front. Or you could just smooth locks into a half pony. I hate when people make it sound like rocket science, if you don’t know how to pull your hair into a half pony you should run, because I think I hear your short bus leaving the station.

Spring Hair Styles - Low Pony

Low Pony - Just pull your hair back into a low, casual ponytail. Top off the look with a pair of your favorite aviators. Classic Spring/Summer look!

    3. BRAIDS (they’re baaaacck!)

Spring Hair Styles - Formal Braids

    Simpson Sisters Braiding …

    Cool Springtime Braids …

I think this is more of an artwork. I know girls who can whip their hair into an awesome french braid in mere moments. I unfortunately am all thumbs when it comes to braiding, I do however admire women who can pull off the look as I feel it is both laid back and hyper cool, very bohemian chic!

    4. THE LOW BUN

Spring Hair Styles - Low Buns

Low buns are simple, messy and fast! Pretend like your making a low ponytail but instead of pulling the hair all the way threw the elastic band, loop half of your hair and leave the lengthier bits popping out in disarray. Takes literally two seconds and can be dressed up or down depending on where you are headed.

Michelle Williams showcases a beautiful low bun! :)

Hope this inspires your Spring hairstyles!
