Celebrities are Bringing the Thick Eyebrows Back, Thank God

Unlike the high fashion runway models, I’ve been noticing that more and more celebrities are not afraid to let people know that they have eyebrows. I mean, really, why should they? Full eyebrows that are groomed and shaped make your face look more naturally radiant.

I think skinny eyebrows first came into style when Brooke Shields threw
away her tweezers in the 80’s. A lot of people were scared by this look–but come on, her eyebrows are a little wild to say the least. You really can’t help but notice that Brooke’s face would be even more gorgeous if she’d trim her brows. As a result, this fear of the eyebrows as inhibitors of our optimum beauty took control and so began the relentless plucking obsession.

I think Tyra Banks is the prime example of the classic omg-what-did-I-do-to-my-eyebrows moment. In her picture on the left, you can barely tell that she has any hair follicles at all above her eyebrows–giving an alien-like illusion to her face. This is a definite DON’T! Natural beauty is the last thing that this look produces.

If that didn’t scare you, check out Pamela Anderson’s awkward face. Let this be a lesson to all of you. Drawing in your eyebrows does not fool anybody.

Finally we’ve reached a decade in which more celebrities are discovering the obvious in-between. Something not as manly as Brooke’s brow nor as freaky as Tyra’s or Pamela’s eyebrows.

Hayden Panettiere from Heros has eyebrows
that look groomed, yet naturally stunning.

Anne Hathaway’s dark, full eyebrows seem to compliment her face very well and she’s definitely got that natural beauty.

Who Has More Fun? Making the Switch from Blonde to Brunette

It seems as though Julia Roberts gets more beautiful with age!  She tends to go back and forth between brunette and blonde, but the latter definitely works better for her I think.

    Julia Roberts

Many women choose to go lighter for summertime which is usually complimentary to sun-kissed skin, but beware of frosty looking highlights.  Here, Roberts has a honey-colored base with golden highlights.  A lot of celebs go back and forth between colors, it works on some of them, but on others, highlights just make them look older.

    Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson recently made the switch to dark brunette which looks very beautiful on her here at the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic.  The brown suits her although I can’t help but think her trademark blonde locks keep her looking younger.

    Kate Hudson

Fergie looks better with lighter hair also.  Her look below at the MTV Video Music Awards in Japan is so hard looking, whereas the blonde softens the curves on her face a bit more.

Whether you decide to go darker or lighter for summer, my best advice would be to ask your stylist to use a really conditioning formula on your hair.  Maintenance is also really important so the color doesn’t fade or get brassy.  Shopping around for good color-saving products wouldn’t hurt either.

MTV Movie Awards - Angels and Demons

MTV Movie Awards - Hits and Misses

Introducing the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!
(a.k.a. - Death, Famine, Pestilence and War) - Ha!

Sorry folks but that’s what instantly came to mind when I saw these four, by the way anyone else think that Heidi Montag could be Tori Spelling’s slightly prettier, silicon injected sister? I see the resemblance, do you?

See how they all share the same vacant “come hither” stare. I kid you not if you stare at them long enough you can actually feel everything you learned in college slowly seep out of your ears. They are literally human intelligence repellent!

That said, they do look pretty. In the same way that I use to think Barbie was the prettiest doll in the world; hard, plastic, beautiful. Then I pulled off her head and saw that she was empty inside and my love affair ended.

    ANGELS

MTV Movie Awards - Hits and Misses - Megan Fox

Is she the second coming of Angelina Jolie? Well I would not go that far but Megan Fox is definitely a stunner. Please note I have a weakness for the dark haired, fair eyed, tattooed rebel girls but even if you are not a fan you must admit she pretty much takes your breathe away..

MTV Movie Awards - Hits and Misses - Anne Hathaway

What I utterly adore about Ms. Anne Hathaway is her graceful “I don’t try, I just am” beauty. Plus she has that I’m smart yet nice face. I sometimes play a game inside my head where I secretly cast people in re-makes of movies, well if Disney ever made a real life version of Snow White I nominate Hathaway as the lead!

MTV Movie Awards - Hits and Misses

Just so no one thinks I have a thing against my fair haired vixens, presenting the lovely Charlize Theron. I always appreciate that she rocks hardcore couture from time to time but she keeps the makeup minimal and classic. Wait! Except for that one Oscar moment where she looked like a tangerine, but we all make mistakes

MTV Movie Awards - Hits and Misses - Ellen Page

Ahhh, the incomparable Ellen Page! What a breathe of fresh air she is genuine, funny, smart and beautiful. I hope she stays that way and doesn’t lose her soul in the depths of Hollywood.

What did you guys think of the celeb parade at this year’s MTV Movie Awards? Who were your hits and misses?

Oscar 2008 Hair and Makeup Favorites - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!

    THE GOOD

Oscar 2008 Hair and Makeup Favorites for Smarter Beauty Blog
Here are my personal picks for fabulous hair, makeup and general hotness!

I think my choices speak for themselves, if you question or doubt one of my picks by all means, lets debate! :)

    THE BAD

Renee Zellweger at the Oscars 2008

I grow weary of her scrunched up face…I think the “yo yo” dieting for her craft is wearing down her looks.

    Tida Swinton at Oscars 2008

Umm…she scares me. She looks like a corpse drapped in the lining of her own coffin….

Miley Cyrus at Oscars 2008 Hannah Montana

Ok, I know I am going to get alot of heat for the following statement but I stand by my convictions. All my nieces are hopelessly devoted to Ms. Hannah Montana as well; but lucky for me they do not read this. I am sure she is a sweet girl and a breathe of fresh air compared to the “Spears Klan” but I do not approve of her hair and makeup people. Frankly, they should be fired! They make her look much older than she is and dare I say it, sort of “bratty tranny-ish”. I’m sorry but thats my two cents for what its worth.

    THE UGLY

John Travaolta at Oscars 2008 John Travaolta at Oscars 2008 John Travaolta at Oscars 2008

Again I realize some of you might find me harsh, but it breaks my heart more than you will ever know. I use to subscribe to the I heart John Travolta fanclub! (Grease Era) But what sort of hybrid crop rotation is occurring on his cranium!? It looks like artificial turf was super glued to his skull in the semblance of hair? Mr. Travolta how about you grab your buddy Nick Cage and you subscribe to the Bruce Willis “Hair Club for Men” aka. Bald & Beautiful!

Whew! Ok I am done, all in all I enjoyed the 2008 Oscar ceremony. Plenty of genuine sentimental moments, glitz, glam and sparkle. Plus you can never go wrong with Jon Stewart at the helm!

Anne Hathaway is the New Face of Lancome

Another year, another advertising contract. Well, for Anne Hathaway at least. The actress has just been named the new face of Lancôme and will appear in ads promoting the company’s upcoming fragrance later this year.

Here’s what Odile Roujol, President of Lancôme International has to say about the union:

“Anne Hathaway is a radiant young woman who perfectly embodies modern femininity. We know she will portray all the passion and excitement of our new fragrance, to be launched throughout the world in September 2008.”
