Ray-Ban Sunglasses are Back with a Vengeance!

Authentic Ray Ban Sunglasses Well I know I maybe should have posted about this particular phenomenon a bit sooner, but truth be told I didn’t think this trend would last for too long. I just came back from Las Vegas this weekend and I would like to report that not only is the “Authentic Ray Ban” trend still in full force but that it is trickling down to fashion as well.

If I had a nickel for every guy I saw sporting a fedora and a pair of black Ray-Bans well I would probably have a buck fifty right now! :) Truth is I don’t mind the look, it’s kinda suave and a throw back to the “Sinatra Rat Pack” generation. It’s swanky.

I also attended the Kanye West Concert on Friday, now the one look I am not fully convinced about is the multi-colored Ray-Bans that the young hipsters seem to be supporting:

There was literally swarms of kiddies sporting white Ray-Bans at the Kanye concert, but I think it was also due to those white sunglasses with blinds for lenses that he sports that added to the trend. I personally have nothing against the colored versions, they just look really stupid on my pudgy asian face.

More power to you if you can rock them. Myself I am more of a fan of the Classic Ray-Ban Aviators sported here:

What do you guys think? Welcome back vintage Ray-Bans? or Horrible blast from the Past?

Fashion Week 2008: Flower Power at Anna Sui

Maybe it’s the nostalgia of having a Clinton running for the White House, but I think a revival of the 90s revival of the 1960s is on the cusp of happening. At least if Anna Sui has anything to say about it–check out the beauty at her Fashion Week Fall 08 show.

    Marie Antoinette’s Perfume

    Let them wear perfume!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist that, and I couldn’t think of a less cliche opening sentence for a Marie Antoinette-related article. Anyway, let’s get on with it:

Today the Palace at Versaille is releasing M.A. Sillage de la Reine, a new fragrance based on the one once worn by the fallen French Queen. This reproduction of the original fragrance formula uncovered by historians will be sold by order only. The price is $463, but a very limited edition of 10 crystal bottles of the fine stuff will sell for about $11,000.

The scent, originally concocted by Marie Antoinette’s perfumer (tangent: don’t you wish you had a perfumer? Then you could say things like, “No, Sally, I can’t meet you for lunch today, my perfumer is coming over” or “Oh, thanks, I’m glad you like it. My perfumer whipped it up for me”) Jean-Louis Fargeon, is said to be very authentic, completely natural and “intensely floral.” It’s primary notes include rose, iris, jasmine, orange blossom and sandalwood.

P.S. If you’re interested in Marie Antoinette’s life, I recommend Antonia Fraser’s fascinating biography. It’s what Sofia Coppola’s film was based on, and it clears up a lot of misconceptions. I read it earlier in the summer and loved it.

    Vintage Bonne Bell Ad

In honor of Evette’s passionate ode to Bonne Belle’s Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker, I thought I’d share this old BB ad from the 70s. It was originally featured in Tiger Beat, circa 1979. Does it get any better than that?

The first line of this ad, reads: “Hooray for Lip Smackers! Not only are they the original humongous lip gloss, but they’re the niftiest too.”

Ooh, do they still sell the Good & Plenty flavor?
