Awesome Fing’rs - Rockin’ Nails Make a Comeback
I recently went on an all-girls road trip to San Francisco, CA and had a hard time deciding what to wear. This may be fashion season in all other areas of the world, but to S.F., this is foggy season (as it is cold 8 months out of the year there). Thus, girls have to have several different types of outfits on hand: scarves, gloves, and long jackets for daytime wear, sweaters and jeans for after work, and cocktail dresses with a dressy sweater or short jacket for the evening. Although packing my outfit was not my biggest issue; I also had to decide on one polish that could rock EVERY outfit, especially with many different types of accessories & shoes. So what’s a girl to do? Do you take your sultry red polish, sleek black cherry, or a fun pink?
Well all my prayers are answered with FINGR’S nail stickers. Now I’m not talking Lisa Frank looking stickers, with ponies and tons of color, think more along the lines of tattoo’s or decal art for your nails. Yup, Fingr’s has a line called “Edge” for the hardcore nail fanatic. The designs are fabulous and upbeat and they were reasonably priced too! I couldn’t be happier in such a time crunch, since the application process takes only minutes.
I had wished I would’ve known about these little babies for our first night in the city by the bay. We went to Ruby Skye, a chic/hip night club which has a dress-to-impress atmosphere and is located right downtown. I had sported a short black dress with long boots and smoky eyeshadow. Since too many accessories would have been overkill, I could have quickly stuck on some heart shaped press on’s with skull designs or styled some bleeding hearts with wings. And for the super shy in the city, these would definitely have been some conversation starters! Let’s be honest here, ladies, we all know a drink in the hand calls attention to your nails. These would work especially well in a situation where you just got off work, friends want to meet up for happy hour, yet you have no time to make your hands look pretty. Wah-lah, nail beauty with a hip twist!
This new find is not only for the ladies though. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have a line for little girls, called Little Fingr’s “Girlie Nails”. My daughter will be so excited! She absolutely loves coming along for a mani/pedi anytime I hit the nail salon. Since she is only 4 years old, this is way more appropriate (and not to mention cost effective). They come in petite sizes for the little ones and also have age-appropriate stickers, with french-style manicures that have just the right amount of glitter or flowers, so your child’s hand looks classy and not trashy. I am a new big fan of the “California Girl” style also, which come in short lengths for those that are active but conscious of their manicure. Their website shows different fashions for different season’s as well, so check it out and have some fun.

i think that the author makes a point on insisting that the stickers must be kid friendly
theres nothing wrong with pampering oneself as long as you send out the right signals
its for fun, not for school, etc…
and i’d rather have a little girl whos clean with funky nail stickers than one who doesnt like to have a bath with filthy nails…

Children shouldnt be wearing nail polish
bad enough 12 yr olds are wearing more makeup than i did when i was 17!! Now im 33 and cannot believe the way this neew generation is thinking and dressing. How old is this blog host anyway?

Correction: the four year-old mentioned in the article only wears the nail stickers. She also asks for them, no one makes her. I have no problem with natural nails but am okay with allowing my daughter to have fun with polishes and stickers and know many Mother’s that are okay with this as well. Thanks for your concern!

I’m just curious how many of the people doling out reprimands actually have children? I painted my 6-year-old’s nails last night. It’s a girly thing we do together. Get a grip…it’s just nail polish.

Parents who are TOO over protective of their children even at an early age…who try make sure kids are “TOO OVERSEXED” and what not at an early age end up with rebellious, whore teenage daughters. You end up with exactly what you are trying to prevent. Just saying.

There is only one person in the house who gets to wear make up and jewelery, unless during dress up play.
That is me. But I’m an adult and it was a rite of passage when my mother started allowing me to adorn and decorate myself.
I don’t think we can really be TOO over protective when it comes to our children. Especially when there are so many sick people out there.
Why draw attention to our beautiful daughters with glittery dangling earrings and painted nails. I’ve seen mothers who “bond” with their little girl by putting make-up together.
Why make our girls think they aren’t pretty and perfect just the way they are?
Want to do something “girlie” and fun with you daughter.
Take a parent and tot dance class or hula hoop fitness class together, or pick up tennis, get actively girlie.
Stay away from encouraging them to focus on their self image and what they look like and get out into the world of reality.
If you insist on adorning yourselves though or stocking your jewelery boxes, make beads from recycled magazines and straws, then make fun necklaces and other fun projects with them.
Or use glitter and pink paints and make fairie mobiles, or something, but let your children be children. PLEASE!!!
I do like the stickers on the nails idea. Not permanent and sounds more like fun then fashion. Thanks for putting it out there!
