Colored Contacts… Are they fooling anyone?

Actually these colored lenses featured on Heidi Klum and Paris Hilton are for Halloween and are therefore forgivable because they are meant for theatrical purposes and look great! (Well on Heidi Klum at least…)
But the inspiration for this post is for all those ladies and even gentlemen who rock colored lenses on the day to day. I just got back from China and the stewardess had thee cheesiest colored lenses on. The irony is I am absolutely certain she was not trying to sport obviously fake lenses for shock value or theatrical purposes but was genuinely trying to convince the populace at large that she and Elizabeth Taylor both were born with violet irises.
I found the whole thing so disconcerting that when she walked over to my seat to ask what I dinged her for, I completely forgot and instead stared blankly at her retinas. I bet she thinks people are so mesmerized by her fake purple eyes that they become speechless. Ummm - newsflash lady that is not the case! More like staring at a colored sphere floating over your natural brown eyes, you’re fooling no one.
I actually don’t have anything against colored lenses in general and in fact use to wear grey ones in high school. I guess my issue is when they don’t fit right and move and shift mid-conversation OR when the color is soooo unbelievably light or unique that you almost look like a cat or hypnotist.
PLUS - I think when colored lenses are combined with super dyed or fake hair, fake nails, fake tan, fake designer clothes… fake-fake-fake-fake… well the whole thing pretty much screams OVER KILL! No me gusto.
Exhibit A:

By the way, did you guys know that Paris Hilton wears colored contacts and that her eyes are naturally brown! And is it just me or did she have work done on her nose? Mmmm, then again it could just be the natural progression of age. Maybe…
Anyhow, so what do you guys think? Do you like colored contacts?

I can tell they rn’t real too. Especially the blue one’s. I like brown eye’s and blonde hair. It’s pretty rare i think paris should go with her narural color. She looked the best in 1998. The middle pic of her is too frosty. the one on the far left is better. I like paris in a way.

Okay…I’ll admit it; I have colored contacts. BUT…I don’t wear them everyday! Just for nights out and special occasions. Mine are by Freshlook called Radiance. With my med-brown eyes they make them kinda golden in color. Almost with a hazel twist. I’ve tried the blue, they look silly b/c yes, they swim all over. The Radiance is just a way to enhance the already dingy brown that I am “blessed” with. I love my eyes and they are my best quality beauty-wise, so getting to play around with new colors is fun and a change!
My Dr. told me that the ones that Paris wears are about $1200-1500 a pair!!!

Your post is hilarious. I was cracking up. You are so right on; their not fooling anyone. Quite the opposite in fact. I never thought of using them for a costume though…thanks for the idea!

Definitely a no, no for me. I much prefer the more sophisticated look you get with a pair of retro glasses. I get a lot more attention when I wear glasses that suit me than anytime I wear contacts. No matter what the color.

Haha! I regard them in the same category as makeup in general - I seldom use the latter, but when I DO I go all-out (no, not “theatrical” - I’m an artist & know how to put it on). Anyway, just for the fun of having “purple” eyes - why the heck not?! I have hazel ones, kinda find them dull usually; I like to bring out the greenish in them with what I put on my face, hair & clothes. But I have always ADORED “violet” eyes (which are NOT really PURPLE, but kinda PERIWINKLE anyway)! I cannot find the color I really want which would skew more natural that way - but heck I’ll wear the silly purples, JUST to stand out from the crowd.
(My glasses are ok too - but I don’t like to wear them ALL the time!)

I agree that Paris looks weird. I always wondered why until I saw a pic of her with her natural eye color. I think the combo of the fake tan, fake haircolor AND fake eye color is probably a big part of the reason she looks odd. The 1500$ she spends on her lenses would be better spent on something that doesn’t make her look like an alien freakazoid! Paris is actually really pretty and I think her real beauty would shine through if she changed her look to a more natural one. It would be great to see her with some honey-brown lowlights in her hair, NO orange body paint, less makeup and her real eye color.
I myself am not a fan of color contacts. My natural eye color is brown and I had a green pair of lenses once before. They were so uncomfortable it was hard to wear them and I had the slippage problem too. Having green eyes looked cool and everything but it really wasn’t worth the hassle. The color actually looked natural but again, not worth the effort. Even if I found a pair of comfortable ones, my vision is fine and putting them in was a major pain!

Honestly, I adore colored contacts. I have nothing against your article, though (even though there is nothing really “bashing” in there :D). There is a kid in my school who goes around with bright red contacts once a month, it rocks. I have always wanted the colored contacts, in fact, once I get my first paycheck this summer, I am totally getting them! Although, I want to go outrageous! I want the disko lenses (Neon!!!! Wooo!) or the soccer ball ones, cat eye ones or even the zebra ones! (black out lenses are awesome too!) Sorry for blabbing, I just love them sooooo much lol! ^^
I know, I’m insane, but hey, I have always been into the Rave style! Go bright colors and individuality!!! ![]()

Im a lover of contact lenses I agree some people opt for cheap fake looking ones but if someone can afford the better ones like solotica’s from brazil ‘hello goodbye’ GORGEOUS these are the most natural until then I will continue with my baby blues against my puerto rican taned skin and love every minute of it.. again I totally get what your saying some people are sooooo ridiculous they get weird looking ones and its like ummm yea I can tell dude, but on me they actually look pretty natural and have had people actually ask me if they were my natural eyes or not, lol they get all up in my face to further examine me lmao eeek but its all good at least it fooled them til they were three inches from my face XD lol
UPDATE!!! Have you guys heard about iris implants its not fda approved YET!!! But it looks very promising. this is a little permenant lens they slide underneath the top layer and boom you got those baby blues you always wanted forever! Im soooooo doing this when I possibly can I think its like in Panama. I have heard of LOADS of people flying over to get it done! (Of course Id never do it until FDA has approved it and its in the US hmmm sounds a bit creepy going to another country to do something so serious) http://www.newcoloriris.com/index.html

Indeed, colored contact lenses are a very artificial item of fashion. I can’t stand the idea of trying to be someone else than who you really are.

i am a fan of colored contacts. i have brown eyes, and i usually put some Gray contacts on. they look pretty natural, and i have fooled some people also. lol. my parents usually tell people who ask me if they are my real eyes that they are and not many people in my family have them. its hilarious watching them walk away all mesmerized. i havent tried any other colors, but i am dying to try some blue or blue greens. something in that color range.

IF eyes are the wondows of the soul then what does it say about people like Lindsay and Paris who habitually wear artificial eye colours ?? I notice in Paris prison release shots where she has no makeup and her natural brown eyes her body language is very insecure and certainly not usual Paris. She needs artifice to feel real and that says a lot about her as a person.
