Los Angeles Time’s Reports - Michelle Obama has Real Style and Beauty!

Los Angeles Times - Michelle Obama - Style

I recently did a post about “Who would win the Beauty Election? A fictional beauty contest poll between Michelle Obama, Sarah Palin and Cindy McCain. Well of course I am not discriminatory about the comment responses, but I was saddened to see so many racial comments about Michelle Obama. :(

So when I came across this awesome article in the Los Angeles Times called “Michelle Obama’s Real-World Style” I had to share.

Jack & Jill blogger paraphrases perfectly:

LA Times fashion critic Booth Moore has an amazing piece in today’s paper on Michelle Obama’s real-world style. She correctly observes that Obamas mixing of haute couture and off the rack isn’t just about humility, it’s a truly American way of dressing, one that emphasizes personal style over class, status or labels. She also notes that it’s smart. Referring to Obama’s choice of a $30 dress from the Gap for a 4th of July picnick: “She also thinks about appropriateness, something that is missing in the sartorial dialogue of so many Americans. An inexpensive sundress is more appropriate to wear to a parade than a stuffy pantsuit, or an expensive frock you might spill food on.”

Moore’s piece touches on so much sartorial history that I hesitate to paraphrase any more of it, lest you not click through to read the whole story. I’ll just say that she makes an excellent case for how and why Obama stands to be a true style leader, as opposed to a style figurehead.

It’s a MUST-READ for all you style and beauty mavens! Click on the links above to catch up.

I agree with the article it’s very cool to know she is down to earh. I did say she makes stink-faces too, but so do i so that’s ok. I didn’t mean to sound racist. i just thought stink-face was a general term for anybody with a sourpuss

    Oh Laurie!

I didn’t think your comment was racist at all, but if you read some of the others, like kool-aide, big butt and ghetto. I thought those were pretty racist.

No one ever referred to Sarah Palin as a “cracker” , do you know what I mean?

But of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, just made me “disappointed” is all…

    Thanks,
    Michelle

When you’re in the spotlight, people will always have an opinion about you…the faces you make, the clothes you wear, if your bra strap was showing, and even the color of your lipstick.

There’s no reason why people should throw racist low-blows like that. It’s so much easier to point out the negative characteristics in other people, while we fail to point out our own.

Do you know what’s one of the WORST criticism i’ve heard about our country?? As much power as we have, we STILL discriminate against one another’s skin color, culture, and class.

I feel Michelle Obama’s beauty resins from within as well as the outside. You will always have haters (black & white) who will try to put her and her husband down for something they weren’t willing or could not do with their own lives. Even though racism is alive and well here in the USA, I hope those people will get passed that negative thinking. The Obama’s is a class act to follow.
I just hope they can get us out of the mess the administrations before got us in! I’m tired of being broke ($$$)!

that administration didn’t get us in this it was the crooks on wallstreet that gambled with peoples money. We need to put them in jail and stop bailing them out ok. So quit blaming an administration for this problem i seen it coming long before they came and u should have to. if u didn’t then that is why u r broke now.

Ms Laurie… Not that I’m “broke” in that sense of the word, it’s just taking a little longer to get the funds together to do what used to do and that’s travel. Although there is enough blame to go around, I feel the administration’s watch dogs should have not only seen this financial hot mess coming but should have put an halt to all of it’s activities unless they were a part of it as well. Obama has his work cut out for him. It will take more than one term to clean up the mess the Republicans have managed to get this country in once again.
