Myth Buster:Does Bottled Water Left in Cars Cause Breast Cancer?

Fact or Fiction - Does bottled water left in cars cause breast cancer? Well I usually immediately delete all the novellas and prayers my Mom sends me but this one sparked my interest because I have heard that heating up food in certain types of plastic or styrofoam releases toxins that when consumed are carcinogens. So it seemed plausible, here is the email I got from my Mom:

    Subject: IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    WARN YOUR WIVES/FRIENDS AND DAUGHTERS

Bottled water in your car…..very dangerous, woman!!!!
This is how Sheryl Crow got breast cancer. She was on the Ellen show and
said this same exact thing. This has been identified as the most common
cause of the high levels in breast cancer, especially in Australia ..

A friend whose mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The Doctor
told her: women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.

The doctor said that the heat and the plastic of the bottle have certain
chemicals that can lead to breast cancer. So please be
    careful and do not
drink bottled water that has been left in a car, and, pass this on to all
the women in your life. This information is the kind we need to know and be
aware and just might save us!!!! The heat causes toxins from the plastic to
leak into the water and they have found these toxins in breast tissue. Use
a stainless steel Canteen or a glass bottle when you can!!!

Well bottom line I hit internet engines fast and hard to figure out whether this email was bogus. Mainly because it seems logical and I happen to be a frequent sipper of left over bottled water in my ol’ car. Here is what I found:

IT IS FALSE!  - Drinking bottled water left in your car will not give you Breast Cancer

Myth Buster - Bottled Water in Cars are Cancer Causing?

    (Source: Snopes.com)

So there you have it gals, you will not get Breast Cancer from drinking the warm water you left in your car. Whew!

My husband just called to tell me his boss was just diagnoised with bladder cancer. A direct cause from drinking bottled water. Because the bottlle’s are made with estrogen. What do you think about that? What is a person to believe? Evelyn

The proliferation of bull perpetrated as “expertise” on the internet is one of the MAJOR drawbacks of the information age. We can only teach our children to be discriminating about what they read on the I/N.

The real reason that you shouldn’t drink bottled water is because it’s an incredible waste of money and resources. Not to mention that it is completely unnecessary. If you happen to live in a developed nation you can get safer water from the tap one thousandth of the price and produce a lot less CO2 and garbage.

I never drank bottled water, thought it was a waste of money. Until I moved. I have the worst tasting water, we’ve tried every filter and it still stinks. Loaded with minerals, One of my dogs actually had to drink store water because she got kidney crystals from it. My neighbors and friends in the area all have the same complaint.
This isn’t the sticks, Long Island and I only moved 20 miles from where I was.

Now that everyone is turning off on bottled water, I have to use it. I feel so anti-green.
