Signature Scent Flashbacks - What fragrance brings you back?

Posted March 31, 2008 by evette
    Found in: Perfume & Cologne

I was standing in line at the Pinkberry’s in Pasadena, when this girl walked by me and I got two nostril filled whiffs of her perfume. Immediately my brain triggered hints of nostalgia and I had a flashback of junior high and trying to remember the combination to my locker before the third period bell went off! Holy smokes, what was this girl wearing? Was that?…no it couldn’t be, was that GUESS?!

    Guess Perfume

I didn’t know they even sold it anymore! Isn’t it odd how scents and music can instantly transport you back in time to a particular moment or event? Well Guess Perfume does that for me, followed closely by Liz Claiborne the triangle series. I use to collect all the different size bottles and display them proudly on my nightstand, like tiny trophies of my keen sense of smell and style.

Well after smelling that girl in Pinkberry, I must have experienced some sort of nose damage in my youth because - yeck! It was strong and overpowering! I can’t believe I use to bath myself in this stuff.

    Liz Claiborne Fragrance

Here is a picture of my beloved Liz Claiborne scent circa 1990’s! Certain male colognes bring me back as well; Cool Water for Men, Drakkar Noir, Curve for Men, Acqua Di Gio … ahhhh young amor! :)

What was your signature scent from the past?

I had a boyfriend freshman year college who wore Drakkar. Once I got on the elevator to go to class and smelled him before I saw him, turned around and there he was.

“Heaven Scent” was my scent from high school, Wow!! that shows my age, if any one remembers, Donovan sang the song in the commercial for it, “wear your love like heaven, wear your love like heaven…” Some others I fondly remember are “Jontue”, and “Charlie”, oh yeah and does any one remember “Babe” The perfume , not the pig, lol :)

I wore the Liz Claiborne, featured in the article and Eternity (still love it) during high school but my very first fragrance was Exclamation! I made sure that my girls were given a bottle on their 11th birthdays. I remember Polo and Chaps being real popular with the guys.

Lauren reminds me of high school (the good part) and Giorgio reminds me of my high school friends…we practically bathed in them (it WAS the 80’s).Narcisse is a reminder of some of the best times I had in my life, right after college. Giorgio and Narcisse are way too strong, although occasionally I try the Narcisse now and then. I have a bottle of Lauren that I use only once in a while because it’s near impossible to find- I have to use it sparingly too because it’s strong too.

The scent that brings me back is White Shoulders, my mother would wear it to work everyday and when she came home in the afternoon around 4:45 it still smelled wonderful.

I didn’t really have a favorite in high school, but I do remember a lot of Cool Water running around at my high school, followed closely by Curve. And that was about 6-7 years ago…geez, I’m gettin’ old…

What boy didn’t wear Drakkar?! That was the scent of the high school for boys. Myself, I didn’t care much for womans scents. Now though it’s all about Dolce & Gabana.

I liked Tabu in high school. I also like Dreams by Tabu, and does anyone else remember Xia Xiang? I loved it!!! It’s still one of my favorites today. I don’t think they make it anymore, but I did find a couple of people on Ebay who had a sealed bottles, so I found it there!

I don’t know where all those scents were when I was in high school, it was all about Vanilla Fields. Everyone was wearing it. I totally go through “Scent Cycles” first it was that, and then I got a little more mature with Poison then it was Beyond Paradise, and now its subtle body spray/lotion duos and pheremone enhancer stuff from Passion parties. Haha.

I must be the oldest. In Jr. High we used our Mom’s Fabrege’ collection of Tigress, Woodhue, Flambeau and another I can’t recall the name of. Also Ambush, Intimate, Youth Dew, and Windsong.

Shalimar - my mom wore it. When she died, I started to buy it for my mother-in-law. Good thing she loves it, huh? I can’t smell it and not think of my mom. Even now the smell can make me tear up missing her.
