    Holiday Gift Ideas: Cosmetic Sets

Can’t think of a good gift for someone on your list?  I say, give ‘em a cosmetic gift set.  I mean, who doesn’t love to get a pack of shiny lip gloss or skincare products from their favorite cosmetic brand?  The sets come out in droves every holiday season, so there are lots to choose from at lots of prices.

    Here are a few favorites:

    Lancome Juicy Lipgloss Set, $35

    Japonesque Kimono Brush Set, $62.99

Philosophy Few Good Men Lipbalm Trio, $25

Clinique Travel Gift Set,  $24.50 ( I love that bag. So cute!)

Holiday Shopping: Save Plenty of Cents on Your Scents

With the ease of online shopping, I really don’t understand why anyone actually steps into a mall during the holidays anymore. Personally, I can’t deal with the crowds, especially the ones at the perfume counters at the dreaded department store –fragrances are the perfect holiday gift, and everyone knows it.

I love gifting perfume and cologne, too, but I’d rather do it from home since the deals tend to be better online, anyway. One of my favorite sites to nab a great deal is Scentiments.com, where they have an amazing selection of designer fragrances that won’t crush your budget. They have all the big names, latest trends and classic favorites for men, women and even kids. Plus, I like them because they guarantee that you get the best price possible. How’s that for keeping the holiday stress at bay? I love it.

Here are the ones I’ve already chosen this year:

Juicy Couture 3.4 oz Spray for Women by Juicy Couture $46 (old price=$85)

The bottle alone makes this a must-give. Plus, the mix of notes (Watermelon, Mandarin, Pink Passion Fruit, Marigold, Green Apple, Water Hyacinth, Crushed Leaves, Tuberose Absolute, Wild Rose, Princess Lily, Tuberose, Caramel Creme Brulee, Vanilla, Precious Woods, Patchouli) makes it so unique and right for just about every woman. It’s fun and sophisticated.

Acqua di Gio for Men 3.4 oz spray by Giorgio Armani, $49 (old price=$65)

I love, love, love this scent for men. Can cologne be classic and contemporary at the same time? Because Acqua di Gio is. I’ve heard that Armani’s inspiration for this super-masculine scent was an island on the Mediterranean Sea. It has a definite marine note along with Mandarin, Bergamot, Neroli, Persimmon, Rosemary, Nasturtium, Jasmine, Amber, Patchouli, Cistus. It’s good for dads and boyfriends, and how often does that happen?

Diane Lane is the New Face of Neutrogena

Following in the footsteps of Jennifer Garner and Hayden Panetierre, Diane Lane has just signed on as the new face of Neutrogena. Word has it she’s been using the company’s skin care products for years and years, but that’s what they all say.

Neutrogena says: “Diane Lane is a captivating and inspiring actress who personifies the Neutrogena brand with her natural beauty and daring spirit.” I couldn’t agree more. Really, her beauty has captivated me since I first saw A Little Romance when I was a kid. And I’m so happy that she’s been able to ride out her comeback.

    Nice going, Neutrogena.

I saw this product by ColorOn Professional on Beauty Snob, and I don’t know what to think.  It’s a good time saver, I guess, but I really don’t want this leopard print shadow thing to catch on due to the ease of application.

Okay, that’s not fair.  They also have lots of natural colors, but you know what they say: you can give a woman a shadow strip and she’ll be beautiful for a day, but if you teach her to apply it, she’ll be beautiful forever.

Nonetheless, Beauty Snob gave it a pretty good review.  $16 for a pack of 5.

How to Tame Messy Hair: American Crew Fiber

I’m not the type of person to stress over my looks, but I do have a strong work-with-what-you-got ethic. One of the latest additions to my beauty tool box is this Crew Fiber (about $13). I have thick hair for which I am thankful, but its coarse texture means it’s hard to tame and often looks messy about 10 minutes after I do it. It’s a bit of a curse in that way.

Ever since a horrible pomade mishap in the late 90s (involving me, my greasy head, a dance club, and three subsequent hair washings), I’ve steered clear of any products with a thick or paste-like appearance. However, after cutting my hair short, my old trusted products just weren’t doing it for me. So, since Crew seemed to be working for my husband, who is also of the thick and coarse hair persuasion, I thought I’d try it, too.

My technique: I take a small dab in my hand, rub my palms together, then pat my head in the messiest areas. I just let it sink it before I attempt to style with my fingers or a comb. It gets better as the day goes on, and the result is less messy hair. Or at least more stylish messy hair.

    And it washes right out.
