    Baby Fashion: Soft Sole Shoes

Posted June 26, 2009 by molly

Soft sole baby shoes are all the rage right now.  Why?  Well, first: they’re really cute.  More importantly, they allow baby to walk in a similar fashion to walking barefoot.  Barefoot walking allows the arch and foot muscles to develop correctly.  Unlike regular children’s shoes with a stiff body and hard soles, soft sole shoes are very flexible with soft, pliable soles.  Until toddlers have been walking for at least a few months, the only purpose of footwear is to protect the child’s feet and to offer some grip on a smooth surface.  For prewalkers, shoes are not necessary.  Many pediatricians, including the Dr. Sears, recommend that children under two not wear shoes all.  It’s not recommended that you put a regular hard sole shoe on a pre-walker or a beginner walker.  Did you know that many children’s shoes are too small?  Make sure to have ¼” to ½” from the longest toe to the shoe (when standing) when purchasing shoes.

Here are some adorable soft sole shoes:

    Robeez Infant/Toddler Poppy Sandal: $22.71

Bright and fun, these shoes are skid-resistant, made of durable leather and comfortable.  Great for indoor or light outdoor use.

    Pediped Chocolate Charlie Loafer: $30.00

So cute and preppy!  Soft leather with a foam cushion for extra protection and comfort.  Hand-stitched around soles with lots of ventilation.

Baby Girls Green TRUMPETTE Soft Sole Infant Dress Shoes $26.99

I love the funky green!  So sassy and comfy!

ShooFoo Infant Ducky BaSoft Sole Shoe $27.97

Non-slip leather sole for stellar traction, and breathable leather uppers plus so adorable!

Robeez Classic Mary Jane Slip-On $27.95

Elastic goring provides easy on-and-off wear on a little mary jane constructed from soft, breathable leather that flexes with each movement.  Sweet!

With shoes like these, you can be sure your little one’s precious tootsies will be looking good and feeling great!

    Going Green: Soles United

                                                   Crocs

Wondering what to do with the Crocs that you and your family have outgrown or worn-out? Now, you can recycle them! Crocs has created a company called Soles United that turns the materials from old Crocs into new ones. Last year, the company gave away 1 million pairs of shoes to people in need around the world. This year, they’d like to double that amount. You can find a participating retailer near you, or you can simply send your old pair directly to Soles United.

                                                                       Soles United

Do your part by taking or sending your old ones in, OR start a “Croc Drive” in your neighborhood to collect everyone’s old pairs! You can also help out by purchasing a recycled pair for your child or yourself. The company will match your purchase by donating a pair to someone in need. The only drawback right now is that the recycled Crocs are only available in one color (Cocoa), but for such a great cause, you can sacrifice some “pizazz.”

Heelarious Baby High Heels: Yay or Nay?

                                         Heelarious Packaging

I stumbled upon these high heels for babies called Heelarious this weekend.  I actually think if you just take them as they are they are pretty hilarious.  Mommies love to dress up their baby girls in the “girliest” of kids wear, but apparently some people think this is these ”baby stilettos” take it too far.  I looked for reviews around the web and found some pretty hostile ones.  From TheStar.com:

Dressing a monkey and having it dance in public draws attention to its keeper.
    -Sheila McKillop, Sudbury

    One word: Vulgar.
    -Jennie Berkeley, Windsor

The younger children are exposed to fashion and sex symbols (leopard and zebra print, what were you thinking?), the more likely they’re going to grow up with the idea that fashion, materialism and looking sexy is important in life. Do you really want to start putting these ideas in your child’s head on Day 1?
    -Lauren Cymbaly, Waterloo

I do sort of agree with the last comment. However, if I were to buy these shoes for my baby I would only have them where them for entertainment purposes only & maybe take a few funny pictures to look back on and laugh some more.  Halloween would be an awesome time to have your baby sport them as well.

I’m sure we all can remember walking around in our mommies high heels and leaving black marks on the kitchen tile, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we will want to look “sexy” & “seductive” to men at a super young age.  High heels make me want to DIE most of the time although they are very fashionable & I LOVED wearing my mother’s pumps back in the day.

Come on people.  Life is already hard enough.  Lets have a giggle every chance we get…shall we?

If you would like to purchase some of these shoes & check out other styles go to Heelarious.com.
