Play Together, Stay Together: Fun and Active Family Activities

Family fun doesn’t have to be limited to movie nights and board games. Being active and have a great time together benefits everyone and builds memories that will last you and your children a lifetime.

Heading out for an afternoon doesn’t have to be a trip to the park every time. If you look around your city or surrounding communities, you might find some other awesome opportunities to hang out and be active while having a ton of fun.

Horseback Riding. Horseback riding may seem like just sitting on a giant animal and being led around, but take it from this country girl, it’s a workout. Just like riding a bike, it takes balance to ride a horse. Balancing on one of those awesome creatures is exercise, but you’re all having so much fun, you won’t even notice it. Most stables offer different riding options, from riding the trails to being led around by a member of their crew.

Ice or Roller Skating. Nothing promotes family teamwork better than supporting each other on wheels or ice. Sure, some, or all, of you might end up on your rears, but that’s part of the experience and adds to the feeling of triumph when your munchkins make their first successful strides around the rink.

Bowling. Bowling is a great activity, because your muscles get a workout, you’re engaged in friendly competition and with the use of bumpers, everyone can be successful. Besides actually bowling, the atmosphere is an experience in itself, from the sounds of the pins falling to the dorky shoes, it’s all just…fun.

Miniature Golf. Mini golf is also fabulous for lighthearted competition and great atmosphere. I remember, as a kid, thinking it was like walking through a magic kingdom where I was a giant; it never occurred to me that I was actually getting so much out of it. Mini golf uses all your muscles, requires quite a bit of walking and practices concentration and patience.

Spending time together doing family activities is always rewarding, because the years go by so quickly. One of the best parts of being a parent is going out and sharing fun, new, active experiences with your children. You learn a lot about each other and the smiles and memories live on forever.
