Along with the many pleasantries of pregnancy (like gas with a mind of its own) many women have to deal with stretch marks. Some see them as badges of courage, while others worry that they’ll never look right in a swimsuit again.
I’m gonna level with you because I’m a shoot from the hip kinda gal: Stretch marks happen. During pregnancy, your abdomen changes rather quickly and there’s no stopping it. That there baby’s gotta grow somewhere. The good news is, there are ways to prevent stretch marks from becoming too unruly.
Chill out on the junk food: Yes, you will gain weight. In fact, you have to…naturally. That doesn’t mean you have to go nuts on the whipped cream or pizza. Eating a healthy, balanced diet will provide you and your baby with the appropriate nutrition without adding on extra weight that you wouldn’t have gained naturally. The more unnecessary pounds you add on, the more of a chance you’re taking on adding stretch marks you could have avoided.
Rock the cocoa butter: Massaging cocoa butter based creams into your skin feels great and helps your skin to stay supple and more forgiving of the expectancy expansion.
Drink lots of water: Getting the appropriate amount of water each day, eight (8 ounce) glasses of water is healthy for your body and your baby. Plus, it provides additional elasticity to your skin. You never want to be dehydrated during pregnancy in general, but the anti-stretchmark power is a sweet bonus.
Rub that tummy: Rubbing and massaging your stomach in a circular motion helps to increase blood-flow to that area of your skin. Good circulation can aid in avoiding stretch marks.
The best thing about working towards beautiful skin that is mostly free of stretch marks is all the things you can do are good for you and your baby. Keeping your body healthy and pampered helps you to feel great, gorgeous and relaxed. And less stress means less stretch marks.
