Kajeet.com: Prepaid Cell Phones and Plans for Kids

Kids are using cell phones younger and younger these days. It isn’t uncommon for a 9- or 10-year-old child to be carrying a mobile device of his or her own on a regular basis.

Cell phones are a great connection between parents and children. My dad often complained about sitting outside in his car waiting endlessly for us to get back from a field trip or practice that ran late and wishing there was a better way to communicate if a 7 o’clock pickup time was really going to be closer to 8 or 9. Of course, I grew up in a time when cell phones were just being developed and you had to have a pretty deep pocket to afford even the simplest of bag phones.

Nowadays, having a cell phone, even for kids, is completely normal. Family plans and relatively inexpensive, sometimes free, phones are available for moms and dads to get in touch with their kids with ease. The downside to handing over a phone with a monthly bill is that it can be dangerous for your budget. Countless parents have been bitten in the tush by surprise cellular bills that are so astronomical that NASA should be involved.

If you’re considering getting your tyke a phone, you might consider a prepaid option. Through Kajeet.com, for example, you can find many styles of phones with various options that are made specifically for children, but inspired by a parent’s need for a budget she can count on.

Sure, there have been simple models made for kids in the past, like the Firefly, but what I like about the selection that Kajeet offers is not only do they have monthly prepaid plans for their wide variety of phones (from very simple for young children to fully Internet-capable phones for teens), but they also offer many parent-friendly features like GPS tracking and parental controls for Internet access.

When the time comes for my sons to get their first phones, I’m not so comfortable trusting that they won’t drain our savings by texting 24/7 or downloading the latest mop-haired pop star’s entire collection. I’ll be paying a visit to Kajeet.com to find a phone and a plan that will make us all happy.

We use kajeet and love it. Parental controlled phone is the only way we feel safe. The plans fit our budget and the contract free service is a plus. The phones are Sprint models and not kiddie looking. They have new and refurbished so there’s a phone for every budget. They also run specials all the time. A ongoing promo I found is a link provided by the company. Go to http://www.kajeet.com/bargain then click super bonus. When you checkout, the price will be adjusted. Even on items that are on sale, they take 15% off the listed price. Do not enter any promo codes at the bottom or it will nullify the link discount.

I bought 2 of theLG rumor 2 phones for my twin 13 yr old boys. They love the phones, maiinly because they text about 99% of the time, and I love the service plans they offer. the only problem I have is, when one for the phones just recently quit working, (it lost it’s screen function) I called Kajeet, and they referred me to LG, who told me to mail the phone to them, and they would evaluate whether the problem is covered under their warranty and I might get the phone back in 7-10 days after they get it. Like I said, I really love their service plans but their customer service regarding faulty phones leaves a lot to be desired. when I had TracFone for the boys, and had a problem with the phones, they mailed me a new phone, no questions asked, along with return packaging and postage. So thats the one thing I would change about Kajeet. If you buy a phone from them, then you should deal with them, and not a second party.
