The Easter Egg Hunt: Ideas and Tips

One of my most vivid memories as a kid was when I found the Golden Egg at our local Easter egg hunt. I proudly marched that little golden egg right up to claim my glory and took home a red flyer wagon. There are wonderful childhood traditions many uphold for this holiday, including dying Easter eggs, finding the Easter basket, and wearing perfect white gloves with a frilly lace Easter bonnet.

When it comes to the Easter Egg hunt, here are some fun ideas to keep kids hopping!

Teach kids colors: Have kids fill their baskets with one egg of each color.  Or have different age groups search for different colors, such as having the youngest hunters seek out the blue eggs, the next age up search for the red eggs, and the oldest kids find the yellow eggs.

Make it a true hunt: Eggs are like treasures and a map with clues on where to find the hidden eggs can challenge children as they seek for the prize! (If you do this, keep count of how many eggs are hidden so you know that they’ve all been found!)

Leave lots of bunny clues: big bunny footprints, bits of bunny fur, even a note from the Easter Bunny himself. Do your kids leave cookies for Santa at Christmas? Don’t forget to leave a carrot for the Bunny at Easter!

Get creative with the prizes inside: not all plastic Easter Eggs need to contain chocolate and jelly beans. Put in little notes about why Easter is celebrated, or small toys that can be played with after the candy is long gone.

Or my personal favorite: hide a golden egg.
