The Who & What:
Several weeks ago, ForbesWoman.com and TheBump.com conducted an opinion survey on the ideal age to have a baby. The survey sample included mothers, non-mothers, working moms, and stay-at-home moms.
The Results:
- According to the result, about a third of women
who had their first child between 30 and 34 wished that they had their baby at a younger age.
- More than half of women who had their first child between 35 and 35 wished that they had their baby at a younger age.
- Most of the women surveyed agreed that finances and emotional stability were strong factors that influenced their decision to have a baby (stronger factors than fertility).
- More than half of the women believed that motherhood has a negative impact on a woman’s career.
- More than half of the working moms surveyed reported that they cared less about work after having their baby.
The Bottom Line:
The survey revealed that 42 percent of women believe that 25 to 29 is the ideal age range for a woman to have or adopt her first child.
