With gift-giving season upon us, shopping for a baby can be a puzzle. Since asking the baby won’t give you much of a response, and considering the incredible assortment of available stuff, choosing the right gift can be overwhelming.
With my own baby turning one, she would be most happy with a bowl of Cheerios to eat and a box of tissues to shred. For those who would like to give gifts that you can’t find at the local grocery, here are some great ideas that are littlest-one approved:

These toys are safe and educational for babies. They encourage exploration with tugging, teething, and interacting. The blanket is super-soft for cuddling comfort. Taggies also makes soft books that have kept our little one entertained as she pretends to read while she explores turning pages and feeling the soft pictures.

If there were an award for weirdest looking toy, the Whoozit would be at the red carpet event taking home a trophy. This gangly dangly toy is incredible fun for the littlest ones to explore. All of the bright colors, fun shapes, and even a little squeaky nose with a mirror hidden underneath are perfect for little fingers to examine over and over. Manhattan Toys has an incredible line of toys that encourage learning. And as strange looking as the Whoozit is, it keeps babies fascinated.

At almost one, our baby is getting her land-legs ready and scooting around on everything. If she can find a chair available, she will push it around the entire house showing off her walking skills. This Radio Flyer is perfect to encourage her development. The wheels are tuned so that the wagon can’t get away from under her, but allow her the freedom to cruise. The handle is at just the right height and the black bumper on the front saves walls and furniture from damage. Her toys really enjoy going for a ride when she takes them on a tour!
My Pal Scout and Violet:

Scout for boys and Violet for girls are some very personal companions for a kid to have. (Think Teddy Ruxpin gone modern.) They actually learn not only the name of their kid, but also many of their favorite things. Scout and Violet connect to the computer so a parent can teach them their kid’s favorite songs, foods, animals, and colors. With so many ways to interact, they will be spending a lot of time together. LeapFrog is a leader in educational fun, and these pups are true to their heritage.
These are a few of the gifts we will be giving this holiday season (which may make Santa have to get creative to find something else for our friends’ new babies). These are toys that will encourage our babies to learn and grow, and most of all, have fun being kids.
