    Crayola Beginnings

                               Crayola Beginnings

Crayola just came out with a collection of crayons, paint, and markers for young kids 18 months and older. It kind of took them a while to realize that even though crayons are typically enjoyed mainly by children not all of them have the same size hands to be able to hold a typical crayon.  It’s actually kind of cute (to me) to see young kids trying to get their artistic energy out while struggling to color with a “big” crayon.

The Crayola Beginnings collection is designed to fit perfectly into your little ones tiny hands & great for developing muscles.

TadoodlesThese Tadoodles are my FAVORITE of the collection.  These “First Marks” (markers) come in cute, fat & little animal characters which are bottom heavy so they won’t tip over and mark up your carpet, table, or counter tops.  They have no caps, but won’t dry out and are activated by dabbing them on a piece of paper a few times.

Price: $13.95 for set of 6

Tadoodle All In One PaiintHere is Tadoodle ”All In One Paint”.  Same concept here.  They won’t spill and they “help in developing gross to fine motor skills.”
    Price: $14.95 for 6

    Triangle Crayons

These Triangular Crayons help young kids control their drawing by enabling them to get a better grip on their crayon.  You know, so their scribbles can be more….scribblier (Yes, I just made up that word).

Parents, you will love these because if your kids go crazy drawing on your walls all you need to do is get a sponge with warm water and…VUWALA!

    Price:  $3.95

Speaking of scribbles, Crayola also released a new book called  Celebrate the Scribble, Appreciating Childen’s Art.  Dr. Kathy Hirsh-Pasek and Dr. Roberta Golinkoff explain how children’s scribbles have more meaning than we think.  This book contains scribbles from toddlers across the US and Canada.

                                        Rubik's Cube

The Rubik’s Cube was one of the best selling toys in the 80’s.  If you never solved this puzzle game as a kid the game has been “revolutionized.”

                               Rubik's Revolution

Try the new Rubik’s Revolution with your children.  There is not only one challenge, but it has six speed games & brian teasers.  This new cube actually talks to you, has sound effects & lights that make playing more exciting.  Also, you don’t have to play alone.  Up to six players can join in the fun!

Stronger Warning for Flu Drug Tamiflu

                                          Flu Shot

There were 25 deaths reported among Tamiflu users under age 21 previous to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s safety review which was released last Friday. Most of these deaths occured in Japan. This review started after reports of children experiencing “hallucinations, convulsions and other neurological problems while on Tamiflu.“  Pretty scary stuff.

The flu drug Relenza has caused similar symptoms in children, but thankfully, there have been no reports of death.

    Children’s Hooded Drawstring Sweatshirts Recalled

Posted November 27, 2007 by evette
    Found in: Toy Recall, Fashion

There is only one recall to report today.  This one is kind of obvious.  Bon-Ton Department Stores Inc. recalled hooded zip-up sweatshirts made under the “Burnside” brand for boys size 8-20.  All you need to do to prevent the “strangulation” is either remove the drawstring on the sweatshirt or return the sweater for a full refund.

To Feed, Or Not To Feed….

                       Breast-feeding

Yesterday The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin discussed a recent study by the UC Davis Human Lactation Center finding that “hospitals in San Bernardino County fall below the state average in terms of hospital breast-feeding rates”

This is a big deal because chances are these mothers will continue to not breast-feed when they return home from the hospital. The World Health Organization and The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breast-feeding during the first six months of life for a number of reasons: “It’s natural, it’s healthier“; “Children who are breast-fed are at a lower risk for a variety of issues like childhood obesity, asthma, ear infections, upper-respiratory infections and certain autoimmune diseases.” That’s a lot of good reasons to breast-feed your baby if you ask me.  What do you think?

Guitar Game That Actually Teaches You to Play

Have you seen the hilarious South Park episode that makes fun of the video game Guitar Hero

Stan’s mom says “If they spend half the time learning a real instrument as they do playing that game who knows what they could accomplish.”  I’ve always felt that way about Guitar Hero.  Although it is a fun & popular game it would be cool if it could teach you how to play the guitar.

The I Can Play Guitar System actually teaches the correct finger positions and notes on the fretboard.  It actually has strings like on a real guitar so kids can practice strumming to learn rhythm and timing.

                   I Can Play Guitar

                                                                              Price: $89.88

You just plug the I Can Play Guitar guitar into your TV and put in the software.  You child can even play along with their favorite characters or TV shows:
